What Happened To Raman Lamba?
On February 23, 1998 the cricket world was stunned as the news broke of the tragic passing of Raman Lamba, a promising player who met his untimely end at the age of 38. His untimely death took place during a club match in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on February 20, 1998, while he was representing Abahani Krira Chakra in the final of the Premier Division against Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Raman Lamba was fielding at silly point, as the game unfolded, Lamba found himself at the center of a tragic sequence of events. Mehrab Hossain, the batsman at the crease, unleashed a powerful shot, which crashed into Lamba’s body with immense force. The ball deflected off his head, and moved towards the wicketkeeper.
How Did Raman Lamba Die On Field?
Although Lamba seemed initially unaffected by the blow, the impact of the ball struck with tremendous power had caused severe internal damage. The India's batter appeared to be alert and continued to play, but in reality, the injury was far more serious than it initially appeared.
He was immediately taken off the field, but by then, it was clear that something was terribly wrong. Medical attention was quickly given and he was rushed to a nearby hospital. After undergoing a series of tests, it was revealed that he had suffered a severe internal hemorrhage as a result of the blow to his head. Three days after the injury, on February 23, 1998, Lamba passed away.
