In a significant development, as the year is about to end, Cricket Australia has unveiled its highly anticipated Test Team of the Year for 2024. It is important to mention that, the team has three players from England, two each from India, New Zealand, and Australia, and one player from Sri Lanka and South Africa. The two Indian players that have made their place in the list is Jasprit Bumrah and Yashasvi Jaiswal. 

Jasprit Bumrah Appointed As The Captain

Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, have had a year to remember and with the brilliant form that he has showcased he has been appointed as the captain of the Team. He has scalped 71 wickets in just 13 Test matches . Notably, he became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets, achieving the milestone with an average of 14.92.

Ben Duckett To Open Alongside Jaiswal

The Team of the Year also features a strong contingent from England, with Ben Duckett and Joe Root making the cut. Duckett, who has been in superb form at the top of the order, will partner Jaiswal as the opening batsman. Joe Root, England’s most consistent performer, slots in at No. 3. 

Star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been India’s best performer with the bat in 2024. He finished the year with a remarkable 1478 runs in 15 matches. 

Harry Brook And Rachin Ravindra In The Middle Order

At No. 4 position is New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, whose heroics in the historic series win against India in October earned him a spot ahead of the legendary Kane Williamson. England’s rising star Harry Brook has been included in the team and will play at the No. 5 spot.Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, fills the No. 6 position, while Alex Carey, the Australian wicketkeeper-batter, completes the batting lineup.

Matt Henry and Hazlewood Included In Bowling Department 

The bowling department is equally formidable, with undoubtedly Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack alongside two seasoned pacers Matt Henry and Josh Hazlewood. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj is the sole spinner included in the playing XI, and that completes Australia's Test Team of the Year for 2024.
