In a significant development, Sussex County Cricket Club has relieved veteran Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, securing the services of Australian top-order batter Daniel Hughes for the upcoming season. Therefore, the renowned Test batter won't feature in the County Championship next year.

On the contrary, Hughes will be available for all Championship and Vitality Blast games for Sussex in 2025.

Meanwhile, promising West Indies pacer Jayden Seales, who recently bowled a sensational spell against South Africa, will also feature in the first block of County Championship affairs.

Reacting to the matter, Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace stated that Hughes would be the perfect pick for the County Club going forward.

"Taking over from Cheteshwar is not an easy task, but Dan has fitted in brilliantly and we are all delighted he will be back for the whole of next season."

"Dan has been top class for us on and off the field. He has brought a wealth of experience to the dressing room and has seriously helped some of our young batters with the development of their games," he added.

Since joining Sussex, Hughes has been an asset for the club, amassing 560 runs at an average of 43.07, including five half-centuries. He will also play Sussex's final five Championship matches later this year.

Cheteshwar Pujara's performance for Sussex

During his stint with Sussex, Cheteshwar Pujara played a pivotal role for the club, garnering truckloads of runs, including a few match-winning knocks. He also returned to the setup for the first seven Championship games this year.
