Chetan Sakariya Relieved As BCCI Set To Clear Him Of Suspect Bowling Action

It seems the news of Rajasthan pacer Chetan Sakariya being called out for a suspect action was a surprising mistake on the part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the left-arm pacer is not enlisted among Indian domestic bowlers with a reported suspect action.

A course correction will be made on an unintentional error by the board authorities after Cricbuzz reported Sakariya's inclusion in the suspect list on Friday (December 15), apart from six other domestic performers who were reported but not banned.

After being queried, the Saurashtra team management, the state cricket association and other individuals close to the pacer aged 25 expressed their surprise upon seeing Sakariya's initial addition to the list.

Sakariya Not Part Of BCCI's Suspect Action List

It seems the error occurred due to Sakariya's first name 'Chetan' being the same as another player from South Zone, who was supposed to be included in the list by the BCCI. The details behind the error were revealed after Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) officials reached out to the Indian cricket board.

"It was a sort of miscommunication and error, and Chetan has never been called, and he is not on that list. I understand that the name of a Karnataka bowler should have been there, and the IPL is addressing the issue. The franchises are also being duly informed," SCA president Jaydev Shah told Cricbuzz about the turn of events this Saturday (December 16).

Sakariya would've taken a sigh of relief after the news of being reported for a suspect action threatened to force him out of the forthcoming IPL 2024 mini-auction scheduled next Tuesday (December 19 in Dubai.

Released by the Delhi Capitals (DC), the Indian pacer on a comeback trail has registered at a base sum of INR 50 lakhs as he eyes a new base for himself. Sakariya was one of the youngsters who donned the senior international cap as part of an alternate young squad sent on the 2021 white-ball trip to Sri Lanka. He has played 1 ODI, 2 T20Is and 19 IPL matches.
