Meanwhile, Dean was with the Spirit in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, where she bagged six wickets. While she was the second-highest wicket-taker in the Charlotte Edwards Cup earlier this summer.

After impressing Knight in The Hundred 2021, the off-break bowler got a national call-up in September 2021, and since then she has been a regular feature for the England women's team.

"It's a great opportunity for me, I'm really looking forward to leading this team. Obviously, we are gutted that Heather can't join us this year, but we have an exciting squad filled with experience and young talent and we can't wait to get started on Friday," Charlie Dean said.

The 21-year-old cricketer will have a big responsibility of filling the big boots of Heather Knight and leading a star-studded London Spirit team featuring top order batter Beth Mooney, fast bowler Megan Schutt, as well as all-rounder Amelia Kerr.

The Charlie Dean-led London Spirit will play against Southern Brave in their first game of the second season in Southampton on Friday (August 12).
