The Hundred 2022: Will Smeed's century powers Birmingham to 53-run win


 Smeed's magnificent century followed by a clinical bowling performance helped Birmingham Phoenix steamroll Southern Brave by 53 runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Wednesday, August 10.

Smeed's unbeaten 50-ball 101 propelled Birmingham Phoenix to a commanding score of 176 for 4 before the pace duo of Henry Brookes and Kane Richardson wrecked the batting line up of the Brave to bowl them out for 123.

For the Birmingham-led outfit, the right-arm fast Henry Brookes and Kane Richardson were right on the money as they kept the Brave's batters on their toes and didn't let them pick up steam in any phase of the inning.

While Brookes returned with a majestic figures of 5/25 in 20 deliveries, Richardson picked up three wickets in his staggering spell of 15 balls. 


Will Smeed's one-man show propels Birmingham to 176/4

 Smeed's third wicket alliance with Liam Livingstone (21) which turned out to be a nightmare for the opposition bowlers. The 20-year-old forged an 80-run partnership with the Lancashire batter off just 47 deliveries, with the latter playing a second fiddle to the former. 


Smeed unleashed some wonderful drives, cuts and pulls while racing to the three-digit figures in just 50 deliveries. He stayed unbeaten till the end and took his team to a challenging total single-handedly. His 50-ball 101 was laced with eight fours and six towering sixes.
