Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin Set To Earn Big In WPL Auction: Reports
WPL Auction will take place today [X.Com]
Ahead of the second Women’s Premier League Auction which is planned to take place on Saturday, the names of Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin, and Kim Garth are doing the rounds. Considering the ongoing form of these players in recent outings, franchises will be battling hard to secure their services prior to the start of the next season.
A tally of 165 players from 5 franchises namely Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will go under the hammer. However, a maximum of 30 slots are still up for grands which also includes 9 spots for overseas players. The current pool of players comprises 101 Indian and 64 international players.
Dottin, Athapaththu set to earn big
Each franchise is allowed to have a maximum of 18 players. The franchise that is set to break the banks is none other than the Adani-owned Gujarat Giants. The team has the potential to buy up to 10 players including 9 overseas ones. Moreover, Amy Jones, Shabnim Ismail, Georgia Wareham, and Annabel Sutherland, who have been categorized into the 40-lakh bracket have been released by their respective franchises ahead of the auction.
Surprisingly, Dottin, who was released by the Gujarat Giants just before WPL-1 in March due to 'medical grounds', and her replacement Garth, are the sole players who have opted to be placed in the Rs 50-lakh bracket this time.
All eyes will be fixated on the Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu. After being snubbed by various franchise leagues, Chamari made a strong statement by setting the stage on fire in the recently concluded WBBL tournament finishing with a tally of 511 runs and 9 wickets.
Furthermore, a total of 15 players from the associate nations have taken part in this auction and are eagerly waiting for an opportunity to get picked by a franchise in this marquee event. Tara Norris from the USA was the only associate player to be picked last year in the competition who endured a fairly remarkable run with Delhi Capitals.
