Pakistan's last Test victory in Australia came back in 1995, when Mushtaq Ahmed rattled the hosts at Sydney, claiming nine wickets in the match and helping the visitors avoid a series whitewash. This emphasizes the importance of bowling in Australia, where conditions will assist the bowlers despite being different from each other in various venues.

Ahead of the first Test on December 14 at Perth, newly appointed Pakistan skipper Shan Masood has stated about selecting his final bowling unit for the encounter once they reach the venue.

Speaking to ICC, while reflecting on the team's strategy for the upcoming Test, Masood hinted at the inclusion of seasoned bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali, who were rested during the ongoing tour match. However, he emphasized the need to assess pitch conditions, player fitness, and strategic considerations before finalizing the bowling unit.

Here's what Masood said

"We'll only be able to decide when we get closer to the game, see the pitch, see the conditions, see where the guys are at with their fitness and their loads. You have to look at the opposition as well, match-ups, or type of bowling, is huge in cricket now.  Obviously Shaheen and Hasan are senior bowlers, they are probably pencilled in, but you want to look at everyone and give them a fair run before you make that ultimate decision.

The permutations on the structure if the side matters as well - do we go with an all-rounder, what will the role of the spinner be? So there are a lot of things we are looking at and we are very glad we are playing a fixture like this."

As Pakistan gears up for the challenging series, Masood expressed satisfaction with the team's preparation, citing the significance of the ongoing fixture in shaping their strategy and addressing various permutations in team structure.
