After Rohit Sharma's retirement, Hardik Pandya was the front-runner for the post of T20I captain, however, that didn't happen.

BCCI took a surprising decision and appointed Suryakumar Yadav as the new leader of the T20I side. Even the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir backed the decision as the captaincy door looked closed for Hardk.

However, fresh reports emerging state that Hardik may still have a glimmer of hope. Reports suggest that the BCCI was always keen on the all-rounder as their new captain, but his injury record was always against him.

BCCI wants someone who is fit and is available for all the major series. Hence, they have asked Hardik to work on his fitness and play all white-ball games in order to get back what was his.

As per a BCCI source, Suryakumar was appointed on a temporary basis, and the team still has the ambitions to make Hardik, the T20I captain. The next T20I World Cup is in 2026, so in that regards, Hardik has time to prove his fitness.

Under new captain, Suryakumar, India started on the front-foot, winning the T20I series 3-0 against Sri Lanka. Hardik, will most likely feature against Bangladesh in the T20Is, starting in October. The all-rounder will be eager to prove his critics wrong.
