CA Removes Johnson From Two Public Functions After Warner Controversy

Mitchell Johnson has faced the heat from Cricket Australia (CA) for his persistent squirred at former teammate David Warner as he has been stood down from two public speaking functions by the cricket board.

The former speedster had agreed to speak for CA in two public interactions but has now been removed from the position after facing flak from the Australian fans and the board for grinding an axe with the veteran opener.

Johnson had penned down a controversial column for The West Australian before the start of the Australian summer where he questioned Warner's right to play a farewell Test series against Pakistan and asked whether he should be dictating his point of retirement.

Before Warner relished facing an inexperienced Pakistan attack for a first-innings century in Perth, he was averaging a measly 31.79 over 26 Tests and 46 innings since the beginning of the pandemic. His body of work in the post 2020 era included just two centuries and six fifties.

CA Lashes At Johnson Over Warner Fiasco

However, the matter escalated when Johnson went on to also raise fresh doubts about Warner's integrity and insisted he hadn't yet owned his role and responsibility properly for the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, which rocked Australian cricket to the core.

Johnson accused chief selector George Bailey of lacking objectivity and wrote he isn't capable of making the hard calls due to close proximity with his former teammates part of the current side, including Warner. In response, Bailey had vehemently rejected the accusation and counter-questioned if Johnson was alright on the mental front.

With the issue not yet closed, CA has now decided to leave Johnson from the list of guest speakers for its two public speaking functions, keeping in mind it could infuse more fuel to the burning fire between parties.

"Mitchell is one of Australia’s most celebrated bowlers, but we felt on this occasion it was in everyone’s best interests that he was not the guest speaker at the CA functions," a CA spokesperson told The Advertiser.
