Gerald Coetzee is excited at the prospect of his name popping up at the mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (December 19) and hinted he would be keen for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to win the final bid for him.

The rising South African pacer, who is also a handy power-hitter down the order, has registered at the IPL 2024 mini-auction with a base sum of INR 2 crores. If the CSK stint materialises, Coetzee will not only continue his Super Kings association but also earn the prized opportunity to play under the legendary Dhoni.

Coetzee must have been earmarked by the Super Kings for the auction coming up in Dubai, having turned up for the franchise in the SA20 league for its South African subsidiary Jo'burg Super Kings.

Coetzee Keen To Play For Dhoni's CSK

He was Jo'burg's top wicket-taker of the tournament's inaugural edition with 17 scalps in nine matches with an economy rate of 8.07 and has also played 2 Tests, 14 ODIs and 4 T20Is for the Proteas at the international stage.

Speaking to RevSportz in an interview, Coetzee expressed delight at a potential influx into the CSK camp for the IPL 2023 after relishing a player-friendly set-up created by the franchise during the SA20 with their Johannesburg side.

The Dhoni factor doubles up the excitement as the Proteas seamer could be plying his trade under the great leader, who is likely approaching his final year in competitive cricket.

"If I end up playing under MS Dhoni, then it would be a massive opportunity for me to learn and to experience one of the greatest captains of all time. The Super Kings family is really special. They are such a powerful and awesome franchise."
