The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the Test team of the Year for 2024. Three Indians have been included in the team, and Pat Cummins has been announced as the captain of the side. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and star opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal have all been included in the side by ICC.
Jaiswal, Duckett to form deadly opening partnership
Jaiswal and England's aggressive opener, Ben Duckett will open the batting in the Test team of the year. Jaiswal scored 1,478 runs in the calendar year and also amassed 712 runs in a single Test series Vs England to have a tremendous year in Test cricket.
On the similar lines, Duckett also had a brilliant 2024 and finished as the leading run-getter for England in the Tests Vs India with 343 runs. In the remarkable year, he finished as the third highest run-getter of 2024, only behind his teammate, Joe Root and Jaiswal.
Williamson, Root dominate middle order
The old stalwarts of the match, Kane Williamson and Joe Root have also been included in the team. Root finished as the leading run-getter in Tests in 2024 (1,556), and was instrumental in England's success throughout the year. He performed well against India, and also racked up centuries Vs Pakistan and New Zealand to cap off a brilliant year.
2024 was an injury-hit season for Kane Williamson, and yet the Kiwi star is included in the team for his strong showing. He slammed 1,013 runs in Tests and was the sixth highest run-getter in 2024.
Young guns, Harry Brook, Kamindu Mendis and Jamie Smith dominate the middle order. Brook scored a sensational triple ton Vs Pakistan and was also the second best batter for England after Root.
Mendis, was the breakout star of the year as he was often compared with Don Bradman for his staggering average, and Jamie Smith, had a terrific debut year and he seemingly replaced Ben Foakes and became England's undisputed starter with his stellar batting.
Bumrah, Cummins to lead bowling attack
Pat Cummins, the Aussie captain has been made the skipper of the Test team as well. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he led from the front and helped his side reach the WTC finals by thrashing India, 3-1.
His bowling partner will be the current best bowler in the world - Jasprit Bumrah. He started the year with 19 wickets Vs England in the Test series and rounded off the year with a one-man show Vs Australia. He took 32 wickets in the series and also crossed the 200-wicket mark in Tests.
Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder will be the lone spinner in the side and Matt Henry will be the third pacer in the side.
