Babar Azam trolled over BBL entry [Source: @CricFollow56, @BBL/X.com]
For the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season, the Sydney Sixers signed Pakistan’s former captain Babar Azam. However, in a social media announcement, the BBL page referred to him as ‘King,’ which didn’t sit well with many fans.
Babar Azam has signed with the Sydney Sixers as their pre-draft overseas player for BBL 2025–26. The batter joins a squad featuring Steven Smith and Josh Philippe.
This marks the Pakistan batter’s maiden signing in the BBL. However, the Big Bash League got brutally trolled for their social media announcement.
Babar Azam’s ‘King’ Tag Upsets Fans
To announce Babar Azam’s inclusion with the Sydney Sixers, BBL posted a video on social media with the caption “All Hail The King, Welcome To BBL.”
However, fans mocked the title, pointing out Azam’s lack of Player of the Match (POTM) awards in recent T20Is. Many point out his slow knocks and lack of intent as a top-order batter in the T20 format. The cricketer, interestingly, has already been dropped from Pakistan’s T20I squad.
"😂😂😂😂 King is in without a single POTT, POTM in world t20s 😂😂." - @BeniwalRajesh1
"Calling him King 👑 😭" - @Donewithcricc
"🤢 50(48) player" - @Ultimat3Freedom

"Seems like bbl is looking to destroy their ownselves. Tuk-Tuk loading" - @raghavayush7
"Ironically, a player who can't hit a single six will play for the Sixers. #Ghantekaking" - @lateefu4u
In the recently concluded PSL 2025 season, Babar Azam scored 288 runs in 10 innings, including a duck, with a 36.00 average while leading Peshawar Zalmi. His team finished fifth in the points table with 4 wins in 10 games and dropped out of the playoff race.
Amid such bizarre form, Babar’s signing in the BBL has led to a frenzy amongst fans, as many oppose his tag of ‘King,’ especially in the T20 format.
