With the IPL Retention Deadline just hours away, cricket fans across the globe are eagerly awaiting the announcement of their favourite players’ fates. On October 31, 2024, the official retention list will reveal which players will continue with their franchises and which will part ways, setting the stage for the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction.

However, as per the reports, on October 30, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sent an advisory to franchises requesting not to disclose their retention list to the media. Instead, the BCCI will make an official announcement once the deadline ends.

IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant And Shreyas Iyer Likely To Be Released

With the IPL retention list just around the corner, India stars such as Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer are the talk of the town. Rohit Sharma, the five-time winning captain, handed over the Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy to Hardik Pandya last season. However, he is expected to be retained, despite the internal rift.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is unlikely to be retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) as captain. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)  to their third title, is likely to be released.

Virat Kohli’s comeback as captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has also sparked excitement. After leading RCB for eight years, Kohli is expected to aim for a title with a fresh approach in the new season.

IPL Council updated the rules and regulations and this year’s retention rules allow teams to keep up to six players, with five capped (Indian or Overseas) and two uncapped players. BCCI will release full list of retained and released players for all 10 IPL franchises by today (31 October, Thursday) at 5 PM IST.
