Former Australian captain, Tim Paine has made a scathing attack on India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir while stating that he is Team India's main concern and not Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The remark comes after a word of war between Gambhir and Ricky Ponting.
Gambhir was rattled by Ponting's remark on Virat, Rohit's poor form and he gave a stern reply to the former Australian skipper before Team India departed for the 5-match Test series. Gambhir is known for his on your face replies and this hasn't gone well with former India cricketers as well.
Now, just a few days before the start of the Border-Gavaskar series, Paine has taken a jibe at Gambhir and feels that the Indian coach will have a long summer.
“I don’t love it. It’s not a good sign, I think, because all he was asked was a very simple question. I think he’s maybe looking at Ricky still as someone he’s playing against, but Ricky is a commentator now—he’s paid to give an opinion, and his opinion was spot on. Virat has been sliding; it is a concern, absolutely. But for me now, the biggest concern for India right now isn’t Rohit Sharma’s batting, isn’t Virat Kohli’s batting; it’s their coach and his ability to stay calm under pressure,” Paine told SEN Tassie.
Gambhir under pressure after series loss Vs New Zealand
India were expected to steamroll the Kiwis in their Test series, however, the opposite happened. A Kane Williamson less New Zealand team thrashed India in all three Tests and won the series, 3-0.
India lost a Test series at home for the first time since 2012 and coach Gambhir received a lot of criticism for India's performance. From number one, Team India slipper to number 2 in the WTC points table and as a result, they now have to beat the Aussies, 4-0 to seal their place in the finals.
Moreover, after the series loss, Gambhir had a nearly 6 hour long meeting with the BCCI heads as he faces the heat ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series.
