On Sunday, November 3, New Zealand scripted history as they beat India by 25 runs to win the series 3-0. Further, the hosts suffered their second-ever whitewash in Test history at home.

Also, New Zealand became the first team in history to whitewash India in India in a three-match series. The defeat has done heavy damage to India's hopes to qualify for the WTC finals, as they have now dropped to the 2nd spot in the standings below Australia.

Rohit Sharma Registers An Unwanted List

With the defeat, India scripted several records and registered their names in unwanted lists. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma too has entered his name into an embarrassing list as he has gone past Kapil Dev to register second-most defeats by a captain in Home Tests.

Notably, it was Rohit's 5th Test defeat at home as India captain and is only behind Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who has nine defeats in 27 Test matches. Most losses at home for an Indian captain in Tests.

  • 9 - Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (27 Tests)
  • 5 - Rohit Sharma (16 Tests)*
  • 4 - Kapil Dev (20 Tests)
  • 4 - Mohammad Azharuddin (20 Tests)

Further, Rohit also had a poor series with the bat as he scored just 91 runs in six innings that featured just a solitary fifty in Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma Opines On His Poor Run With The Bat And Captain

"I fully take the responsibility of this series defeat. I wasn't at my best as a batter and as a captain. It's a low point in my career. That's something that'll rankle me. But, we didn't perform well collectively, and that's the reason for these losses," remarked Rohit.

India now need to win at least four matches out of the five-match Test series against Australia to qualify for the WTC finals.
