On Saturday, March 8, former Pakistan star seamer Mohammad Amir hogged the internet after he opened up on his plan to feature in IPL 2026. Speaking on the TV show, Amir revealed that he needs to register for the IPL auction next year.

The news has spread like fire on the internet, and fans are elated to see a Pakistan star playing in the IPL after a long time. However, a section of fans are confused as to how the 32-year-old is eligible to feature in India's cash-studded league despite a ban on Pakistani players.

It is worth noting that following the terror attack in Mumbai in 2008, the BCCI imposed a ban on Pakistani players playing in the IPL. Since then, the ban has been there and no Pakistani player has featured in the Indian Premier League. But then, how is Amir eligible?

How Is Mohammad Amir Eligible To Play IPL 2026?

It is worth noting that Amir's wife Narjis is a United Kingdom Citizen, and Amir is in the process of getting UK citizenship. According to Amir, he will receive a UK passport by the end of 2025, which will make him eligible to play in the IPL as a UK citizen as he would no longer be considered a Pakistani citizen by the BCCI and won't be violating the ban imposed on Pakistani players.

It will not be the first time that a Pakistani star has opted for such a route to feature in IPL as previously Azhar Mahmood too has played in the IPL on the basis of his British passport. He took a British passport in 2011 and featured for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in 2012 and 2013, and for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2015.
