Pakistan’s former pace sensation Mohammad Amir has set his sights on a return to top-tier cricket, this time in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a candid chat on the popular show Haarna Mana Hai, the left-arm pacer confirmed his eligibility for IPL 2026 and expressed his eagerness to explore opportunities.

The former Pakistan player who is among those Men in Green who headlined their career with 'retirement reversals', even named Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as his preferred franchise and how he can help them win their maiden title.

Mohammad Amir's IPL Eligibility

Amir, who retired from international cricket in 2020, revealed that his wife Narjis’ UK citizenship will soon pave the way for his IPL entry.

“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, why not?” he stated.

The 32-year-old is banking on acquiring a UK passport, which would bypass the IPL’s longstanding unofficial ban on Pakistani players since 2009.

When host Tabish Hashmi questioned how he’d respond to criticism in Pakistan for joining the IPL, Amir pointed to the precedent set by former Pakistani cricketers in IPL roles.

"Pakistani cricketers were banned in the IPL, but our former cricketers were doing commentary and were also coaches of franchises.”

This was a clear nod to legends like Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja, who have been associated with the league.

The Virat Kohli Connection

Amir also shared a heartfelt anecdote about his admiration for Virat Kohli. Ahead of the 2016 T20 World Cup clash in Kolkata, the Indian superstar gifted him a bat, a gesture that left Amir “overwhelmed.”

“Virat is great and admires talent. I’ve always been a great admirer of his batting, and he is of my bowling. I played some good knocks with his bat.”

RCB’s ‘Title Fixed’? Shehzad Backs Amir’s Impact

Fellow guest Ahmed Shehzad amplified the buzz around Amir’s IPL aspirations, suggesting the pacer could transform RCB’s fortunes.

“RCB needs a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. They have a strong batting unit, but their bowling has always been a problem. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title,” Shehzad asserted.

With IPL 2026 a year away, Amir’s declaration has sparked debates. While his comeback is questionable, others argue his experience and skill set could make him a steal at auctions.

Nevertheless, RCB has a packed IPL season this year with their first game of the season being against the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 22. They will play their next games against CSK and GT on March 28 and April 2.
