Mohammed Shami was last seen wearing the Indian jersey during the Champions Trophy 2025, and it has been almost eight months since then. He is still waiting to make a comeback for Team India. In a recent development, the experienced bowler found himself in the spotlight for his comments about the national selectors.
RP Singh meets Mohammed Shami at Eden Gardens
Days after Shami publicly criticised the selection committee over poor communication, newly appointed selector RP Singh met the senior pacer at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
According to a Sportskeeda report, RP Singh was present at the venue for Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat and held a 'lengthy discussion' with Shami after the day’s play.
"After the media exchanges b/w Ajit Agarkar and Mohammad Shami last week, newly-appointed selector RP Singh is at Eden Gardens for the Bengal vs Gujarat clash. The World T20 winner spoke to Shami at length after the day's play today," the report said.
However, it is important to note that the real reasons and the the actual conversation between Shami and Agakar are not known.
Shami’s Rift with Ajit Agarkar
Earlier this month, Mohammed Shami expressed his disappointment over being excluded from the white-ball tour of Australia. He claimed that there was no communication from the selectors about his omission.
Responding to the allegations, Agarkar clarified that Shami was not picked due to fitness concerns, insisting that the decision was purely based on the medical and team management’s inputs.
It would not be wrong to say that the newly appointed BCCI selector RP Singh’s meeting with Shami could be regarding this recent rift between the Agarkar and the veteran pacer. Talking about the overall stats this year in ODIs, the Bengal pacer has played 7 matches and has taken 11 wickets at an average of 30.64 and an economy of 5.93.
