Bizarre scenes occurred in the 2nd ODI between England and India as the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha as the match has been halted because of a floodlight failure. Notably, ODI cricket returned to Odisha after 8 years, but the Odisha Cricket Association failed to live up to expectations for an international match and has now become the centre of criticism.
The management hogged the internet for the first time when England were batting as fans were sprinkled with water in the middle of the first innings to tackle heat as the stadium lacks a shed. Further, they were trolled heavily as India started the run-chase positively with Rohit Sharma clicking after a long time, but the players had to return to the dug-out as one floodlight refused to work normally.
Fans Slam Barabati Stadium
The fans took to social media platforms to slam the Odisha Cricket Association and mocked the ground management as well. The BCCI also received criticism as the fans mocked them for being the richest board in the world and yet not delivering world-class facilities. Here are some of the reactions.
BCCI Slammed For Mismanagement
It is a rare occasion when a match was delayed by over 20-25 minutes because of a floodlight failure. Such halts are not new, but the Odisha Cricket Association failed to repair it in time was what made the fans furious.
A similar instance occurred during BGT in Adelaide, where the floodlights went off abruptly, but it was soon repaired and the players didn't leave the field, unlike here in Cuttack. At the time of writing this article, the news is that the match will start soon without any overs reduced.
