The second ODI between India and England was tilting towards India's favour when the game paused and it halted their momentum. The Indian side needed 305 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, and the Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out all guns blazing.

The duo went ballistic as they added 48 runs inside the first 6 overs and gained the momentum from England. However, just as India were cruising towards the total, a floodlight tower went off and it disrupted the play. The floodlight went off not once, but thrice as frustration creeped in amongst the players.

Eventually after a lot of discussion, the players left the field as the technicians were called in to repair the damaged floodlights.

Captain Rohit Sharma had an intimidating chat with the umpire, but the officials urged the players to walk off the field. Rohit wanted to continue playing, but there was not enough light for a proper game of cricket to continue.

England post 304 as they eye comeback

Unlike the first ODI, England put on a better show after electing to bat first in Cuttack. The openers, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett added 81 for the first wicket with Duckett scoring a quick-fire fifty.

However, wickets started to fell at regular intervals and it was due to the efforts of Joe Root (69 off 72), and Liam Livingstone (41 off 32) as the visitors marched past the 300-run mark to set up an interesting second half with the hosts.
