The Ashes 2025-26 series have concluded with Australia bagging the urn on a scoreline of 4-1. While England was awful with their performance, Australia players broke milestones with their performances.
However, amidst the plethora of players between the five Tests, there were some underperformers as well as some who overperformed. This article will talk about how all the Australian players who participated in the series fared and ratings will be given out of 10, based on their performances.
Top order batters
Travis Head - 8.5/10
Travis Head, the top-order batter, delivered consistently with the bat throughout The Ashes and finished as the highest run-scorer among Australian batters, amassing 629 runs at an average of 62.9. He struck three centuries in the series while facing a total of 720 balls. Head was largely consistent except for a few woes in the 2nd and 4th Test.
Jake Weatherald - 4/10
Jake Weatherald, the Tasmanian brute, had his debut for The Ashes and for Australia as well in this series. While debate was there upon sending down Usman Khawaja for him, the opener delivered, but not as expected. He scored 201 runs in the series with sub-par scores in every innings except for his 72 at The Gabba.
Usman Khawaja - 3/10
Usman Khawaja, the veteran who played in the opening spot and at No. 3 for almost all of his Test career, had to move down this series given his back issues. While the retired veteran promised flair, his only up-to-the-mark knock was at Adelaide, where he bagged 82 runs. He averages 25.14 in the series from his 7 innings.
Middle order batters
Steve Smith - 7/10
Steve Smith held the captain’s flag for four matches in The Ashes 2025-26 and also led with the bat successfully. He boasts 286 runs from his 8 innings while having one century and one half-century to his name. Smith was crucial with the bat at Gabba and Sydney, where his 61 and 138 were massive contributors behind the team’s win.
Marnus Labuschagne - 6/10
Marnus Labuschagne shuffled his batting position throughout the series, featuring at No. 2, 3 and 4. However, his batting flair was most evident at No. 3, where he averaged 34.57. Labuschagne bagged a total of 259 runs and was sub-par after coming off a highly successful Sheffield Shield season. He had four innings in which he failed to get past single-digit scores.
Josh Inglis - 5/10
Josh Inglis, Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter, featured in just three innings in the series, managing a modest 65 runs at an average of 21.66. Although he batted at No. 7, his scores did not cross the 30-run mark in any of his innings, resulting in a below-par performance overall.
Alex Carey - 7.5/10
Alex Carey, Australia’s primary wicketkeeper-batter in the Ashes 2025–26 series, enjoyed a decent campaign, scoring 323 runs across five appearances. Batting at No. 6 and No. 7 throughout the series, he produced a couple of impactful and flashy knocks. Performing consistently, Carey played a key role behind the stumps as well.
All-rounders
Cameron Green - 4/10
Cameron Green, who showed promise with strong performances in the Sheffield Shield ahead of his Ashes selection, had a decent outing in the series. He accumulated 171 runs across five matches, although his scores lacked significant impact. While he failed to register a half-century, Green still contributed with the ball, scalping four wickets during the series.
Michael Neser - 7.5/10
Michael Neser, Australia’s bowling all-rounder, picked up 15 wickets across six innings in the series and was highly impactful with the ball. He also made useful contributions with the bat, scoring 75 runs from four appearances at an average of 18.75, which underlined his overall solid performance.
Beau Webster - 7/10
Beau Webster featured in just one match and picked up three wickets in that outing. In the same game, he also scored a total of 84 runs at an average of 28, underlining his solid impact with both bat and ball.
Pat Cummins - 6/10
Pat Cummins, Australia’s skipper, was ruled out for most of the Ashes due to injury but returned for his solitary Test at the Adelaide Oval. In that match, he claimed three wickets from 17 overs and also made a modest contribution with the bat, scoring 19 runs.
Bowlers
Mitchell Starc - 9.5/10
Mitchell Starc proved his worth with a massive, record-breaking haul of 31 wickets in the Ashes 2025–26 series. He shattered several milestones along the way, bowling 153 overs across 10 innings and recording a best figure of 7 for 58. Maintaining an economy rate of 4.03 throughout the series, Starc was a decisive factor in Australia’s dominance and England’s defeat.
Scott Boland - 8/10
Scott Boland served as a valiant deputy to Starc, finishing as Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in the series. His best figures of 4/33 highlighted his ability to strike at crucial moments, while his economy rate of 3.12 was even better than Starc’s.
Brendan Doggett - 6/10
Brendan Doggett, who made his Ashes debut at Perth, was impressive with the ball, claiming three wickets in the first innings and two in the second. However, his outing in Brisbane ended with only two scalps from 32 overs. Hence, despite being on debut and new to the atmosphere, he performed decently as per expectations, while maintaining an economy rate of 4.44 after conceding 215 runs.
Nathan Lyon - 7/10
Nathan Lyon, the veteran Australian spinner, was underutilised in this series and also battled a persistent injury. He featured in two matches, at Perth and Adelaide, where he bowled only two overs in Perth but picked up five wickets in Adelaide. Lyon was effective and highly economical with the ball, maintaining an economy rate of 2.85 across his 75 overs.
