The Nigar Sultana-led Bangladesh team scripted history for their nation by winning the first medal for their country in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 as they beat Pakistan Women's side in the Bronze Medal match on Monday.

In a low-scoring thriller, the Bangla bowlers were on fire as they reduced the Women in Green to 64/9 after 20 overs at Hangzhou Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field. Shorna Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla shared five wickets between them, denying the opposition any easy runs.

For Pakistan, only four of the batters could get into double-figures, with the number seven, Aliya Riaz, top-scoring for the team - 17 off 18 balls.

The chase wasn't either a fun party for the batters as the Bronze-winning side lost five wickets chasing a paltry total of 65 runs. The left-arm spinner, Nashra Sandhu, tried her best with a spell of 3 for 10 in her four, but the Bangladesh batters somehow crossed over the line.

Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh were defeated by the Indian unit in the semifinal. In contrast, Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka in the semis, meaning the two South Asian cricketing giants will fight out for the gold medal in a while.

India, who are the favourite for the upcoming finale, have already banked a total of 10 medals in the Games - a Gold, three Silvers and six Bronzes. Earlier in the day, Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Divyansh Singh Panwar clinched the Gold for India in 10M Air Rifle Men's.
