Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to kickstart from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan. Eight teams will take part in this prestigious fifty-over tournament.

India are yet to confirm their participation as BCCI is not keen on sending the Men in Blue to Pakistan because of security reasons. Apart from India', now Bangladesh's confirmation also hangs in danger because of the ongoing political unrest in the country.

There are massive protests taking place in Bangladesh, following which their ex-PM Sheikh Hasina flew to India as the protestors entered her government residence and vandalised stuff.

The unrest in Bangladesh has led to a change in power in the country, and the situation is not pleasant at all. The internet and newspapers are filled with reports of killings, houses being put on fire, and several other kinds of threats.

Even, a former Bangladesh cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza's house was set on fire. There are media reports that the upcoming tour between Bangladesh and Pakistan might get cancelled or postponed because of these riots.

The protest is not looking like it will slow down in the near future, which is why there is a doubt whether Bangladesh players could safely travel to Pakistan or not. Much of it would be cleared in the next month, if The Tigers travel to Pakistan for the bilateral series, then it is most likely for them to go for the Champions Trophy as well.

Reason Behind Political Unrest In Bangladesh

The government introduced a  quota system that saw 56% of government positions in Bangladesh reserved for various groups, including 30% for the descendants of freedom fighters who fought in the 1971 War of Independence. The move drew criticism which led to a protest that grew beyond Hasina's imagination.

This quota system has proved an enormous barrier to  civil service positions for the country’s large youth population, many of whom are unemployed. It had also become a subject of controversy because jobs went to supporters of the ruling Awami League party.

T20 World Cup To Be Held In Bangladesh

Bangladesh have also been given the hosting rights for the upcoming women's T20 World Cup 2024, which begins in October. However, given the current scenario, the hosting rights will be given to some other country.

Recently, the BCB also asked the army chief for security assurance during the T20 World Cup 2024.
