India's recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka turned out to be a tough challenge for the Men in Blue. The series resulted in a 0-2 defeat, that marked their first series loss against Sri Lanka in ODI bilaterals since 1997.

The series exposed the Indian batters' struggles against spin on challenging surfaces in Colombo.

Dinesh Karthik Comments On Virat Kohli Recent Struggle Against Spin Vs SL

According to former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, the conditions in Colombo were tricky for everyone in the lineup.

Karthik highlighted that the significant turn on the tracks made it particularly tough for Indian batters during the middle overs, a period where Kohli seemed especially subdued.

“In this series… let's admit. Be it Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or anyone else. With a slightly semi-new ball, between overs 8-30, it's hard work. Nothing to worry about. Not too many pitches work that way, but it's been a tough pitch to play spinners. I'm not going to defend Virat Kohli here, but playing spin here is very hard,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Karthik, who has played alongside Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL, also stated there were significant challenges posed by such pitches and suggested that the conditions were a primary factor in India's batting struggles during the series.

The pitches, particularly during the middle overs, offered a significant amount of turn, which hampered India's ability to chase targets.

Virat Kohli found it difficult to adapt and scored just 24, 14, and 20 runs across the three matches. This has once again brought discussions about Kohli's vulnerability to spin into the spotlight.
