BAN vs SL | Mehedi Hasan doubtful for the first Test due to finger injury

Ahead of the two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh have been hit with a massive shock. It is learned that the bowling all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz has endured a fracture in his right hand's little finger. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury has confirmed the news.

"Miraz has dislocated his right hand's little finger, and there is also a slight fracture on his finger. We have recommended him two weeks of rest and will observe his condition later," BCB chief physician said as quoted by The Daily Star.

The injury has ruled the all-rounder from playing cricket for almost two weeks. Miraz succumbed to the injury while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Sunday (April 24) against Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League.

Notably, the two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will kickstart from May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Though Mehedi Hasan will be out of action till May 09, his presence in the first Test is doubtful.

On Sunday, BCB announced a 16-member squad for the first Test against SL, and the all-rounder formed a part of the same.

Speaking about Hasan's availability, the physician added that a decision will be made soon. The team management will observe the all-rounder's fitness closely before taking any call.

"We can't tell anything at the moment as we have to observe his situation and then make a decision. During the two-week rest, Miraz will only do his leg exercise and cannot move his hands," he said.

Selector Habibul Bashar also opined on Mehedi Hasan's injury. Bashar clarified that the board would wait before naming any replacement for the 24-year old.

"It seems that Miraz is doubtful for the first Test due to his finger injury; however, it is still not confirmed. We will wait and later decide whether to include a replacement of Miraz or not in the coming days," Bashar said.
