The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to reject NOCs of several all-format and centrally contracted players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan for upcoming franchise tournaments. Quite recently, the PCB refused an NOC to young fast bowler Naseem Shah for the upcoming 2024 season of The Hundred.

As per reports, the cricket board will be refusing NOC by citing workload management as its primary concern.

PCB set to reject several NOCs after Naseem Shah setback

In mid-July, the PCB denied an NOC to young fast bowler Naseem Shah. The decision will prevent the speedster from taking part in the upcoming Men’s The Hundred 2024 season for Birmingham Phoenix. Similarly, several reports are indicating that the PCB will now take a similar stance towards centrally contracted players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi to prevent them from competing in the Global T20 League Canada 2024 season.

While neither The Hundred 2024 nor the Global T20 League Canada 2024 are set to collide in any international cricket for Pakistan, a report from ESPNCricinfo indicates that the cricket board wants to manage the workload of their senior players ahead of a busy upcoming schedule for the ‘Men in Green’.

As of now, the Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in August. The matches will also form a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle. Moreover, Pakistan players took part in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA, where they crashed out of the tournament’s race in the opening round after facing defeats against USA and India.
