Pakistan stalwart Babar Azam played a crucial innings of 41 of 38 balls in the third and final T20I against Australia. While Pakistan finished with a mediocre total of 117 runs, Babar achieved a personal milestone by overtaking Indian superstar Virat Kohli in the list of most runs scored in T20 internationals.

Babar Azam, struggling with form for quite a long while now, opened Pakistan innings with Sahibzada Farhan in the third T20I against Australia held at Hobart. Mohammad Rizwan was on rest, and Babar had a promising start with Farhan. The opening duo slammed 58 runs in the powerplay, and Babar entertained the crowd with four glorious boundaries.

Babar Azam surpasses Virat Kohli

In the 12th over, Babar Azam gently punched Nathan Ellis’ good length ball to long on and quickly ran for a couple of runs. That double helped Babar surpass Virat Kohli in the list of most runs scored in T20I internationals. Babar now ranks second in the elite list with 4192 runs with Rohit Sharma leading at 4231 runs.

  • Rohit Sharma: 4231 runs
  • Babar Azam: 4192
  • Virat Kohli: 4188
  • Paul Stirling: 3655

However, Babar Azam’s euphoria was cut short after Adam Zampa dismissed him in the very next over. Zampa lured the Pakistani batter to step out, but the latter fell into the trap. The ball sneaked through the gap between bat and pad to knock over his stumps.

Following Babar Azam’s dismissal, Pakistan fell like a pack of cards to get bundled for 117/10. Notably, Pakistan have already lost the 3-game series against Australia and are on the cusp of witnessing a whitewash.

Babar Azam heckled by fans in Australia

While fielding at the boundary in the second T20I against Australia, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam was heckled by the SCG crowd. Fans called him names and also questioned his place in the T20I squad. Babar, meanwhile, was fuming as he stared at the fans but didn’t indulge in any verbal battle. However, the crowd’s heckling only intensified after the stare as they poked him repeatedly. Notably, Babar Azam is coming off a prolonged period of lean patch and fans are rightly doubting his place in the team.
