According to emerging reports, legendary Pakistan batter Babar Azam is all set to be back in the T20I team. Under Salman Ali Agha's leadership, Pakistan recently suffered a crushing defeat, as New Zealand thrashed them by four-one in the five-match T20I series.
Pakistan Likely To Bring Babar Back For Asia Cup
Batters' disastrous performance was a major reason behind Pakistan's abysmal outing in the New Zealand T20Is. Although Hasan Nawaz struck a blistering century, his shambolic returns in the other matches let the Men in Green down.
Meanwhile, the likes of Mohammad Haris, Abdul Samad and Irfan Khan Niazi failed miserably to prove their mettle. While Haris managed only 65 runs across five innings, Irfan and Abdul Samad received massive backlash for their poor strike rates.
So, considering the batters' underwhelming performance on the New Zealand tour, the PCB selection committee is keen to bring Babar Azam back into the T20I squad, according to BBN Sports.
Therefore, the batter could find himself back in the mix for selection in Pakistan's T20I team for the Asia Cup and 2026 World Cup.
Babar Azam's T20 Career: A Mix Of Highs And Lows
Babar Azam reached new heights as a T20I player when Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India for the very first time in a World Cup game. However, things only went downhill for the ace batter, as he couldn't live up to the expectations in the subsequent editions of the T20 World Cup.
His prolonged lean patch eventually prompted the PCB to sack him from T20I captaincy before reinstating him again before the 2024 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean. Nevertheless, Babar continues to be Pakistan's most technically solid batter; so, his inclusion could solidify their vulnerable top order.
