In a bizarre turn of events, Australian cricketer, Hilton Cartwright, playing for Western Australia, decided to leave the match midway due to the birth of his child as the player wanted to be with his wife and newly born child.
The Aussie cricketer set a perfect example between personal and professional life as he took a bold decision midway through the match. This might look bizarre for numerous reasons, but Hilton Cartwright did the right thing and here's why.
At tea on Monday, the batter was unbeaten at 52 when he decided to leave mid-way through the match to be with his wife who was about to deliver their second child. He not only became a great support for his wife on this special day, but resumed the innings on the next day, as he was eventually dismissed after adding another 13 runs.
The real reason why Cartwright left the match midway
Ahead of the match, Cartwright informed the team management that he is ready to play the game since his wife is 37 weeks pregnant.
"My wife Tameka was only just 37 weeks pregnant so this match against Tassie was never meant to effected by the birth of our second child which is why I chose to play," Cartwright told cricket.com.au.
"She experienced some complications over the weekend which led to a call from the obstetrician yesterday once I had already got to the ground. She recommended that the best course of action for the safety of mum and baby was to be induced that afternoon.
Cartwright has played two Tests and the same number of ODIs for his nation, as the talented batter strives to break into the Aussie side for the foreseeable future.
