India's women's cricket team got a big boost as young spinner Nallapureddy Shree Charani made a memorable debut in the first T20I against England at Nottingham on June 28, 2025. The 20-year-old bowler from Andhra Pradesh stunned the hosts with her brilliant performance, taking 4 wickets for just 12 runs.

Smriti Mandhana and co. batted first, and the skipper’s stunning 112 off 65 balls helped India post 210 runs on the board. In the second inning, Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma struck early blows to break England’s momentum in the chase.

Shree Charani Registered Best Bowling Figures On National Debut

20-year-old Nallapureddy Shree Charani, who made her debut for the Indian cricket team, delivered a sensational spell. She dismissed Nat Sciver-Brunt, Alice Capsey, Sophie Ecclestone, and Lauren Bell to complete a four-wicket-haul.

In her 4 overs, she not only picked 4 big wickets but also conceded just 12 runs. With her match-winning figures, Shree Charani now holds the second-best bowling figures by an Indian on debut in Women’s T20 Internationals.

Best Bowling figures on debut for India in WT20Is:

  • 4/9 - Sravanthi Naidu vs Bangladesh, Cox's Bazar, 2014
  • 4/12 - Nallapureddy Shree Charani vs England, Nottingham, 2025 - Today*
  • 3/21 - Poonam Yadav vs Bangladesh, Vadodara, 2013

Only Sravanthi Naidu’s 4/9 against Bangladesh in 2014 is better. Charani also overtook Poonam Yadav’s 3/21, which had come against the same opposition, Bangladesh, back in 2013.

Charani’s spell was especially impressive because it came against a strong England side and in overseas conditions. She bowled with confidence, flighting the ball and getting sharp turns off the surface.

The young spinner’s efforts helped India women defend the total as they bowled out England women for just 113. With this win, the visitors took a 1-0 early lead in the 5-game T20I series.
