In the latest developments around IPL 2025, there are reports that BCCI will continue with mega-auctions despite protests from several teams.

A report from Cricbuzz stated that the Roger Binny-led board is contemplating increasing the retention list up to 6 players, including Right To Match (RTM), but they are not in favour of disbanding the mega-auction as suggested by a few teams during the recently concluded meeting at BCCI headquarters on July 31.

For a long time, there has been a debate over the mega-auction as a few teams have remarked that because of the mega-auctions, they have to let go of the talent they scouted and rebuild a team from scratch.

However, BCCI is unmoved by the demands and does not want to disrupt their tradition for the IPL. Previously in 2022, the BCCI had only allowed four retentions with no RTM provision.

What Happened In BCCI Meeting With IPL Owners

During the meeting with BCCI members, there were agendas laid down, which included gaming rights, merchandise discussion, and also talks on the retention list and impact player rule.

During the meeting, IPL owners were divided over having mega auction. There were even reports that SRK and Punjab Kings' co-owner Ness Wadia got into an altercation, but the latter refuted such reports.
