As the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the MCG approaches, the action off the field is creating quite a buzz. The Australian media, true to its reputation, has been playing a game of mental chess with the Indian camp by throwing accusations and stirring up controversies.
From targeting Virat Kohli to now questioning Bumrah’s bowling action, the lead-up to the match has been anything but smooth for Team India.
Aussie Media At It Again As Ian Maurice Criticizes Bumrah’s Action
First, it was Virat Kohli in the firing line. The Indian batting maestro was labelled a “bully” for confronting a journalist who filmed his kids without consent. Though the issue was resolved quickly, Kohli has faced the media’s wrath ever since.
Next up were Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep, accused of refusing interviews in English. The claims, as baseless as they seem, only added to the noise.
Now, veteran Aussie presenter Ian Maurice has thrown Jasprit Bumrah under the bus by questioning his bowling action. Maurice took to social media to ask why Jasprit Bumrah’s action hasn’t been scrutinized under the microscope, hinting at “political correctness” being the reason.
“Why has no one questioned the delivery of India paceman Bumrah? Is it not politically correct these days? I’m not saying he’s throwing, but at least the position of the arm at the point of delivery should be analyzed,” Maurice wrote on X.
After facing backlash, Maurice clarified, “I’m not saying he’s throwing … but his action should be analyzed, that’s all!”
This isn’t the first time Bumrah’s unique action has been questioned. During the first Test in Perth, Australian fans accused the in-form speedster of ‘chucking’ after his game-changing performance sealed a win for India.
Bumrah’s Sensational Form Silences Critics
Despite all the noise, Bumrah has let his performances do the talking. The pacer has been India’s shining star in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, topping the wicket charts with 21 scalps at an unbelievable average of 10.90.
The Indian bowling mainstay has snagged two five-wicket hauls and one four-for already. If anything, these accusations reek of desperation from the Aussies, who are clearly rattled by Bumrah’s supremacy.
