The ongoing drama over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy is getting more complicated. Reports now say that the trophy has been secretly moved from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai to a hidden location in Abu Dhabi.

Source gives major update on Asia Cup trophy

According to a report by ANI, the trophy is no longer at the ACC office. It has reportedly been taken by Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the ACC and head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Sources claim that a BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) official who recently visited the ACC office was told the trophy had been removed and was now in Naqvi’s possession in Abu Dhabi

“BCCI official visited ACC headquarters a few days back. When he inquired about the trophy in the ACC office, the staff told him that it has been removed from here and is in the custody of Moshin Naqvi in some place in Abu Dhabi,” the sources said.

This dispute began after India’s victory in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. The Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries. Since then, the trophy has become the center of a standoff between the cricket boards.

Few days back, the BCCI has officially written to Mohsin Naqvi, demanding that the trophy be handed over to India, the rightful winners. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told media that they are still waiting for Naqvi’s response. If he does not reply soon, the BCCI plans to take the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In the letter accessed by India Today, the BCCI asked the ACC to explain in writing why the trophy was withheld from the Indian team after their win. The board also gave the ACC 48 hours to confirm where the trophy and medals are currently located and to explain how and when they will be given to India.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan cricket boards have reportedly backed India’s stance, urging Naqvi to hand over the trophy to the winning team.

As of now, the Asia Cup trophy’s exact location remains unclear, and the controversy shows no signs of ending anytime soon.
