Australia have announced big changes to their teams for the remaining white-ball matches against India, as star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell makes his long-awaited return from injury. The reshuffle affects both ODI and T20I squads as the team balances injuries and preparations for the upcoming Ashes series.

Glenn Maxwell back in action for Australia

Australia have already clinched the three-match ODI series 2-0, so selectors are now focusing on giving new players opportunities before the five-match T20I series begins. Maxwell, who fractured his wrist while bowling in the nets before the T20I series against New Zealand in September, has fully recovered and will return for the last three T20 games. His comeback is seen as a major boost for the team. Fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis has also been recalled and will join the squad for the final two T20s. Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe is another addition to the T20 lineup.

Mahli Beardman earns maiden call-up

In a surprise move, uncapped pacer Mahli Beardman has been called up to the T20I squad. Beardman was a key player in Australia’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team earlier this year, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs in the final. He will join the senior side from the third T20 match onwards as Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott are released early to play domestic Sheffield Shield matches and prepare for red-ball cricket ahead of the Ashes.

Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne, one of Australia’s top middle-order batters, has been released from the ODI squad after the second match in Adelaide to also focus on the Sheffield Shield. To fill the gaps, Jack Edwards and Matt Kuhnemann have been added for the final ODI in Sydney.
