In a significant development towards Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB has made strong security arrangements for the upcoming fifty-over tournament. According to a report from Geo Super, more than 15000 security personnel will be deployed to look after the smooth functioning of the eight-team tournament.
For the much-awaited event, which begins on February 19, the Punjab police have announced their plans in light of the security. 12,564 officers and personnel will be across Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Rangers And Special Force To Look After Security
In Lahore, 7,618 officers will be on duty, while 4,535 personnel will manage security in Rawalpindi. Additionally, 411 officers from the Special Branch will enhance security operations.
Not just on-ground surveillance, the police are also keeping aerial threats in mind as the army, and rangers will take care of security with aerial surveillance. It is not all, as the police are installing cameras en route from hotels to the venues to tighten the security of players and avoid any mishap.
Pakistan To Host First ICC Event In 29 Years
It is worth noting that Pakistan are hosting an ICC event after 29 years and for the first time since the mishap in 2009 when Sri Lanka players were injured following a terror attack. The number of security officials mentioned above are just for Lahore and Rawalpindi, as they fall under the jurisdiction of Punjab police. The numbers for Karachi are different and yet to be added.
Despite the security arrangements, India will not be travelling to the neighbouring country because of security reasons. India will play all their matches in Dubai as a part of hybrid model agreement with the PCB.
