Amy Jones was decent as captain in her first assignment. The absence of the regular skipper Heather Knight and the vice-captain Nat Sciver, resulted in the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) handing the leadership responsibility to the wicketkeeper-batter.

Jones’ captaincy stint got off to a dream start as under her leadership England Women won the three-match T20I series against India Women by 2-1. However, she could not end the tour on a high note as India bounced back to win the three-match ODI series by 3-0.

As India won the final One Day International by 16 runs on Saturday, the English skipper reflected on her captaincy experience. Though the 29-year-old had her own share of ups and downs as the leader, she loved the opportunity.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Jones said,

“Good opportunity with the captaincy role, and I am really happy to have been given the chance to lead the team. It was a tough job, but yeah, I have learned certain things.”

Jones is all praises for the young guns

Jones also lauded the three youngsters, namely Alice Capsey, Freya Kemp, and Charlie Dean, for their stunning performance against India Women. Dean is the second-highest run-getter for the host with 108 runs in three innings. She also made instrumental contrition with the ball by picking three wickets at an average of 42.33.

“Kempy (Freya Kemp), Capsey (Alice Capsey), and Deano (Charlie Dean) were all brilliant in the series. Dean had a great series with bat and ball. Happy for the youngsters to be performing well”

Further, Jones also sent her love and warm wishes to head coach Lisa Keightley. This was the last series for Lisa as the England Women's head coach. Under her mentorship, the team reached the final of the 2022 Women’s World Cup and the semi-final of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Hailing the head coach, Jones said,

"Yeah, our coach had a great term with us. She has been amazing throughout her term. We were happy to be with her. But, one day, you have to depart. The day has come. We are sad, but this is how the game and life goes."
