England Women skipper Amy Jones is absolutely gutted with their loss against India Women in the final One Day International of the three-match series. The 16-run loss resulted in England facing an embarrassing whitewash on home soil. They lost the first ODI by seven wickets while the second game saw them registering a defeat by 88 runs.

Playing at The Lord’s in London, the England bowlers produced a brilliant performance. They gave absolutely no chances to the Indian line-up to gain some momentum. Despite the two good knocks of 68 and 50 runs by Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana, the visitor ended up with a score of 169 runs.

Jones hails the bowlers

Kate Cross was the pick of the bowler with four wickets, while Freya Kemp and Sophie Ecclestone returned with two wickets each. However, the English batters could not continue the momentum as they ended up with only 153 runs. India’s Renuka Singh caused the most damage by taking a four-wicket haul.

Speaking about the defeat, Jones acknowledged the poor display with the bat. The captain believes that they needed some good partnerships in the middle. Notably, Jones looked good in the middle with a score of 28 runs, but her innings came to an end in the 30th over following a dismissal by Renuka.

Appearing in the post-match presentation, Jones mentioned,

"Yeah, obviously, I am not happy with the result. We bowled well. We just needed good partnerships in the middle.”

Amy Jones on Mankad

Meanwhile, the wicketkeeper also seemed upset with Deepti Sharma dismissing Charlotte Dean via Mankad on the final ball. England needed just 16 runs with Dean looking strong at 47 runs off 80 balls. However, the Indian all-rounder put a full stop to the 21-year-old’s innings by knocking the bails off at the non-striker's end. Jones was not much pleased with the way of dismissal.

Speaking about Mankad, Jones said,

“The end would have different opinions around. India would have a good opinion of that, and England won't have the same. But it is in the laws, and you have to take that.”
