On the back of a dominant spin display and a clinical chase, England outclassed India by 8 wickets in the rain-curtailed second ODI. With this commanding win, England now level the three-match series 1-1, setting up a high-stakes decider at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the 2nd ODI, as it panned out at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Saturday, July 19.

Ecclestone Spins a Web as India Stumble to 143/8

After a long rain delay, the match was reduced to 29 overs, with England winning the toss and opting to field first. India had a shaky start, losing Pratika Rawal early with just 25 runs on the board inside the 6-over powerplay. Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol struggled to accelerate early on, with the scoreboard literally crawling in the first ten overs.

Mandhana found occasional boundaries but kept losing support at the other end. Eventually, Mandhana (42 off 51) also fell while trying to increase the scoring which left India struggling at six down under 100. Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy added some resistance towards the end, guiding India past 100-run mark.

Deepti stayed unbeaten till the end, scoring 30 off 34 balls to help India post 143 for 8 in their 29 overs. England’s spinners dominated the first innings, taking six of the total eight wickets, with Ecclestone leading the charge with three under her belt.

Rain Delays Once Again, But England’s Batting Brilliance Sees Them Home

Chasing 144 in 29 overs, England got off to a flying start as openers Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont began strongly. Their 54-run opening stand inside the first ten overs set the tone, until Beaumont was dismissed lbw by Sneh Rana.

Jones was then joined by Nat Sciver-Brunt as the duo continued to run flow, quickly taking England past 100 runs. Rain then interrupted play for another 20 minutes, reducing the target to 115 runs in 24 overs.

With play resuming, England lost Nat Sciver after Kranti Goud rattled her stumps, but the team wasted no time and comfortably crossed the finish line. Jones remained unbeaten on 46 off 57 as England secured a crucial victory with 3 overs to spare.
