In the latest development following Pakistan’s embarrassing exit from the Asia Cup tournament, the team management is compelled to make some bold decisions leading up to the high-octane World Cup. The current vice-captain Shadab Khan was an outright selection for the global event. But the vice-captain’s poor form with the ball has raised question marks on his inclusion in the ODI World Cup squad.

At present, the mood in the Pakistan camp isn’t very uplifting. The skipper Babar Azam is reportedly unhappy with some of the senior players which also includes Shadab Khan. Shadab went on to pick only three wickets as Pakistan crashed out of the Asia Cup in the Super 4 stage. While he may not be removed from the ODI squad, speculations are rife that the 24-year-old may be stripped of his vice-captaincy position.

According to the latest reports, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam are mulling over to make a call on Abrar Ahmed’s inclusion in the World Cup squad. Moreover, the team management is also considering putting some administrative changes in place prior to the World Cup. During their meeting, the chief selector and the skipper also discussed the fitness issues and bad form surrounding some of the senior players.

Abrar Ahmed made headlines during Pakistan’s home Test series against England last year. The leg-spinner is quicker through the air than Shadab and has an element of deception surrounding him. The youngster has only been involved in the Test format, so far playing six matches and picking up 38 wickets at an impressive average of 31.07. His instant success in the longer format made chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq quite happy.
