Babar Azam has been in the storm of heightened criticism as his side crashed out of the recently concluded Asia Cup tournament in abysmal fashion. The side’s colossal defeats against India and Sri Lanka did not go down so well with the fans and the former legendary cricketers from Pakistan.

Not only have his captaincy skills come under the scanner, but the 29-year-old’s form with the bat has also drawn a lot of criticism of late. And to make matters worse, some disturbing reports have also emerged from the Pakistan camp about a growing sense of discontent between the players and the skipper Babar Azam.

Amidst the wake of widespread criticism, Pakistan's former captain Mohammad Hafeez, has called for supporting skipper Babar Azam and boosting his confidence ahead of next month's World Cup in India. He stressed that the Pakistani skipper cannot be wholly blamed for the entire’s team failure.

In an interaction with the media on Saturday, Hafeez emphasized that Cricket is a team game and just as how it is unfair to put the entire blame on the shoulders of the captain.

With the World Cup looming large, Hafeez strongly urged his fellow countrymen to Babar and his team and not allow the Asia Cup defeat to dash their morale. The 42-year-old admits that it will be an arduous challenge for the Men in Green to compete in Indian conditions that are vastly alien to all their players.

"The problem is many of our players have limited exposure of playing in Indian conditions. It is a big challenge for any Pakistani player to play in India in a mega event and also do well, but hopefully, we can count on our players to come through. We shouldn't let the Asia Cup disappointment spoil our optimism or support for the team."

Pakistan is all set to travel to India for the 50-over World Cup for the first time since 2011. All eyes will be on them as they look to take on the Netherlands during the second fixture of the World Cup on October 6.
