Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, promising Indian opener Abhishek Sharma was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for an INR 14 crore salary. He witnessed a steep 115% hike from his previous year’s salary as he earned INR 6.5 crores in the IPL 2024 season.

Abhishek Sharma unleashed his hidden potential in IPL 2024 where he went all guns blazing. SRH skipper Pat Cummins backed him to open the innings with Travis Head and the promotion worked wonders as Abhishek stacked up a total of 484 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 204.21, establishing himself as a critical asset for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

He later made his debut for India in the Zimbabwe series and scored a century. While he hit a brief rough patch, a 50 off 25 balls against South Africa in the third T20I revived Abhishek Sharma’s lost confidence.

Abhishek Sharma retained by SRH for a whopping salary

That being said, given Abhishek Sharma’s potential as an all-rounder, SRH invested in him by retaining the youngster for a whopping salary of INR 14 crores for the IPL 2025 season. SRH retained a total of five players at the October 31 deadline, including Heinrich Klaasen and captain Pat Cummins.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma witnessed a steep rise in his salary for the upcoming IPL 2025 edition. He earned INR 6.5 crores in IPL 2024 as an uncapped player. But this year, he earned his debut cap, and IPL had set a certain salary bracket for capped players’ retention. Hence, owing to his potential and past performance, SRH rewarded him a salary hike of 115%.

Abhishek Sharma is expected to continue opening for SRH in the IPL 2025 season and hopefully can recreate the magic of the IPL 2024 season.

Heinrich Klaasen Retained For Record Price

Meanwhile, SRH has agreed to pay South African batter Heinrich Klaasen a record salary of INR 23 crores for the IPL 2025 season. Klaasen was SRH’s first retention and the franchise had to cut some chunk of Nitish Reddy’s pay check to ensure Klaasen’s demands are met and the maximum bracket for retained players salary also stays under control. SRH have spent a total of INR 75 crores on five retentions and are left with INR 45 crores remaining purse for the mega auction.
