Australian T20I skipper Aaron Finch revealed that his team were taken by surprise when it was communicated to them that the 2nd T20I in Nagpur would be an 8-over-a-side game as they were planning for a 5-over shootout.

Finch made his comments after hosts India gunned down his side's total of 90 in the last over thanks to a masterclass in strokeplay from Rohit Sharma and a final flourish from Dinesh Karthik.

Skipper Rohit bludgeoned an unbeaten 20-ball 46 with the help of 4 fours and as many sixes to lead India's run-chase while Dinesh Karthik smashed a six and a four to finish things off in style in the last over.

Finch was full of praise for his counterpart, Rohit, and left-arm orthodox, Axar Patel, who bowled a match-defining spell.

The Australian skipper also lauded leg-spinner Adam Zampa for keeping the tourists in the game by claiming three wickets. He signed off by complimenting Matthew Wade for another power-packed cameo to lift Australia to 90.

Here's what Aaron Finch said in the post-match presentation:

"We were probably planning for 5 over games before the start. Rohit was brilliant with the batting, and Axar was good in the bowling. Yeah, I feel my batting was fine. All well. Yeah, Wade was batting well, and he is finding his groove well. Zampa was good as well, taking wickets when the need was there."

Nagpur fans greeted with a high-scoring cliff-hanger

The 2nd T20I in Nagpur nearly got abandoned without a toss thanks to poor outfield conditions at the venue despite the lack of rain on Friday.

The game finally got underway in the form of an 8-over-a-side shootout, with Rohit inviting Australia to bat after winning the toss.

Axar Patel (2-13 in 2 overs) once again proved to be the game-changer for India as he clean-bowled the duo of Glenn Maxwell and Tim David.

Kohli's brilliance in the field got rid of Cameron Green while comeback man, Jasprit Bumrah's pinpoint yorker saw the end of a dangerous-looking Finch.

However, Wade's brutal 20-ball 43* ensured that Australia finished at a competitive 90/5.

But, Rohit, in the first over itself made it clear that it was his night as he pulled Josh Hazlewood into the mid-wicket and square-leg stands.

It was a sign of things to come and while Adam Zampa did threaten to take the game away by claiming 3 wickets, Rohit and DK ensured India levelled the 3-match series comfortably in the end.
