Aakash Chopra Questions DC's Strategy Of 'Too Many Keepers' Ahead Of Clash Against RR

In their recent IPL 2024 clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), the Delhi Capitals (DC) found themselves in hot water over their team selection strategy.

Renowned cricket commentator and former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed skepticism over DC's approach, particularly regarding their abundance of wicket-keepers in the squad.

Chopra, in his analysis on YouTube, critiqued DC's decision to field four overseas batters in the top six, including Tristan Stubbs, alongside domestic talents like David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.

He remarked, "You cannot have four overseas batters in your top six." Adding to the concern, he highlighted the surplus of wicket-keepers in the team, questioning, "You cannot have so many keepers as well."

The inclusion of Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel—in the playing team this past Saturday—raised eyebrows.

Chopra emphasized, "Who plays with four keepers?" Furthermore, he raised the issue of Prithvi Shaw's absence from the playing XI, despite having Ricky Bhui and Sumit Kumar in the lineup.

DC's unconventional strategy backfired as they succumbed to a four-wicket defeat against PBKS. With their next encounter against the Rajasthan Royals looming, speculation mounts over whether DC will persist with the same team composition or opt for alterations.

DC's decision-making will be scrutinized further as they approach their landmark 100th appearance in the tournament for skipper Rishabh Pant on March 28 in Jaipur and the team will look forward to their first win in the campaign.
