England have faced a significant setback as young fast bowler Josh Hull has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan due to a quad injury. The 20-year-old left-arm pacer sustained the injury during his Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this month, leaving England's pace attack further depleted.

Josh Hull made his Test debut in England’s recent series against Sri Lanka, showing promise by claiming three wickets in the third Test at The Oval. Although England lost the match, Hull’s performance caught attention.

However, his participation was cut short after he suffered a quad injury, ruling him out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia and the upcoming Pakistan tour. Hull’s injury is a blow to England, especially given his potential to develop into a key player for the national team.

England’s squad for the Pakistan series already faces multiple challenges with several key fast bowlers, including Mark Wood, Josh Tongue, and Dillon Pennington, out due to injuries. The team has decided not to bring in a replacement for Hull, relying instead on the remaining five fast bowlers for the three-match Test series.

However, the fitness of captain Ben Stokes adds further uncertainty. Stokes, who has been managing a hamstring injury since August, recently expressed doubts about his ability to bowl in the first Test, despite the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stating that his recovery is "on track."

Moreover, Olly Stone, another fast-bowling option, will return to the UK between the first and second Tests to attend his wedding, further complicating England’s pace options for the series. Despite these issues, the ECB has opted not to adjust the squad, leaving England potentially thin on pacers.

Upcoming ODI Challenges For England Against Australia

England's immediate focus is on the fourth ODI against Australia at Lord’s on September 27. Australia leads the series 2-1 after winning the first two games, while England claimed victory in the third. England face a must-win situation to keep their chances alive, while a win for Australia would secure the series. The fifth and final ODI will take place on September 29 at Bristol, should England win the fourth match.
