Virat Kohli is set to grace India’s ODI jersey after a gap of six months through the course of the upcoming three-match series against England. While the series serves as an ideal dress rehearsal for all Indian players before this month’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, it also provides Kohli a perfect platform to scale a couple of huge batting records.

Here, we take a look at all major batting records Virat Kohli can break during the series against England.

Records Virat Kohli can break in England ODIs

Virat Kohli was included in India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against England in a bid to prepare for the impending 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Notably, the legendary Indian batter also finds himself on the cusp of several huge ODI records.

Fastest to 14,000 ODI runs

Currently sitting on an illustrious pile of 13,906 runs, Virat Kohli needs just 94 to complete 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. While Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara are the only two cricketers who have scaled the landmark figure to date, both brought up their 14,000th run in 350 and 378 innings respectively. Having played 283 ODI innings in his career so far, Kohli now has the opportunity to become the fastest cricketer in history to breach the threshold.

On the verge of becoming 2nd highest run-getter

Virat Kohli also needs another 329 runs to surpass Kumar Sangakkara’s tally to become ODI cricket’s second highest run-maker. Sangakkara announced his retirement with 14,234 career runs, while Sachin Tendulkar continues to remain the highest aggregator in ODIs with 18,426 runs.

Most 50-plus scores in home ODIs

Virat Kohli has plundered 57 scores of fifty (24 centuries and 33 half-centuries) or more in home ODI matches. If he manages to add two more to his tally in the upcoming series against England, he will surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s haul of 58 to hold the highest number of fifty-plus scores in home conditions.

The first ODI of the series between England and hosts India will be played on Thursday, February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.
