Uncapped Indian cricketer Simran Shaikh was roped in by the Gujarat Giants franchise at the WPL 2025 auction on Sunday, December 15. The 22-year-old player also made her WPL debut for the UP Warriorz back during the inaugural edition of 2023.

Remarkably, Shaikh was sold to the Gujarat Giants for a staggering sum of Rs.1.90 crore after getting involved in an intense bidding war.

Simran Shaikh returns to Gujarat Giants

Mumbai Women’s cricketer Simran Shaikh is set to represent the Gujarat Giants franchise for the upcoming WPL 2025 season. Having made her WPL debut back in 2023 for the UP Warriorz, she was later released by the franchise.

Putting her name at the WPL 2025 auction, Shaikh was sold to the Gujarat Giants franchise for Rs.1.90 crore, i.e., outperforming even the likes of fellow Giants recruit and legendary West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin.

Back in WPL 2023, Simran Shaikh played all nine matches for the UP Warriorz until their tournament-crashing defeat to Mumbai Indians Women in the Eliminator. Despite receiving repeated opportunities in the playing XI, Shaikh failed to justify her position as she managed to cart just 29 runs from seven innings at a dismal batting average of 5.80.

She faced 48 balls throughout the competition, and maintained a below-par strike rate of 60.41 in the process. Set to play for the Gujarat Giants franchise this time around, it remains to be seen how Simran Shaikh will fare in the WPL 2025 season.
