On May 3, during a high-voltage IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre grabbed all the attention with his explosive batting. The young talent smashed 94 runs from just 48 balls, hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes in his powerful innings.

Even though CSK lost the match, Ayush’s performance stood out. With this knock, he broke a 17-year-old record held by CSK legend Suresh Raina. Mhatre became the youngest player ever to score a half-century (50 runs or more) for CSK in IPL history. He achieved this feat at the age of 17 years and 291 days, beating Raina’s record from 2008 when he scored a fifty at 21 years and 148 days.

Their top performers were Virat Kohli, who scored 62 off 33 balls, Jacob Bethell with 55 off 33 balls, and Romario Shepherd, who remained unbeaten on 53 from just 14 deliveries. Shepherd’s knock was especially explosive, featuring 4 fours and 6 sixes, and it equaled the record for the second-fastest fifty in IPL history.

Chasing 214, CSK looked in trouble early but bounced back with a brilliant partnership between Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja contributed a solid 77 runs, and together with Mhatre, kept CSK in the game.

However, in the end, RCB’s bowlers held their nerve, especially Yash Dayal, who bowled a tight final over to help Bengaluru win the match by just 3 runs.
