In a shocking incident, South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada admitted to serving suspension from professional cricket after returning positive result for the use of a recreational drug. This was the reason why Rabada flew back to his home, putting Gujarat Titans' IPL 2025 campaign in jeopardy.
Kagiso Rabada's Suspension Tenure Revealed
Although the CSA hasn't released an official statement on Rabada's suspension tenure, a report by The South African claims that the bowler has been banned for around a month, with some days of suspension already served.
Therefore, as the report put it, Kagiso Rabada could be back in action very soon and might even feature in South Africa's World Test Championship Final at Lord's.
"Rabada has not played a match since the end of March, while the exact length of his sanction has not been confirmed. However, it’s understood that Rabada’s ‘ban’ is expected to be within the range of a single month, and some of this looks to have been effectively served already. It means Rabada should soon be back in action, and there is no threat that it could impact his participation in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June," the report read.
CSA Terms Rabada's Actions As 'Regrettable'
On Saturday, Kagiso Rabada confessed to have used a banned drug for recreation, apologising to his fans across the globe. Later, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released a statement, confirming Rabada's involvement in the incident, calling it regrettable.
However, the board also clarified that the fast bowler had assured his fans and the governing body of not repeating a similar mistake in future.
"Cricket South Africa (CSA) can confirm that Proteas Men right arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has returned an adverse analytical finding for the use of a prohibited substance. The incident is regrettable, however, Rabada has reassured CSA and his fans of his commitment to upholding professional standards and has restated his passion to the sport of cricket and the country he represents with purpose," CSA stated.
"CSA is fully committed to drug-free sport and reminds cricket players, both professional and amateur, of the importance of adhering to all regulations. We are steadfast in our support to all players in this regard," it added.
