Why RCB could win the title [Source: @iplt20.com]
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has reached its business end with the top-4 teams already decided. GT, PBKS, RCB and MI have displaced the other teams and have reached the playoffs and will now fight it out for the coveted IPL title with the finale scheduled on June 3.
Prior to the tournament, experts lambasted RCB's signings and they touted the team to finish in the bottom half. However, to everyone's surprise, the Rajat Patidar led side showed their class and after 12 matches sit at the second place with 8 wins under their belt. The team has immense self belief and here are 3 key reasons why they might just win the title against all odds.
1) Batters delivering the goods
In earlier seasons, there was a dependancy on Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell to deliver the goods. However, this season, the trend has changed and every single batter has shown their class and played match-winning knocks whenever needed.
Player | Runs | Strike rate |
Virat Kohli | 505 | 143.47 |
Phil Salt | 239 | 168.31 |
Rajat Patidar | 239 | 140 |
Tim David | 186 | 193 |
Devdutt Padikkal | 247 | 150.61 |
As the table suggests, while Virat Kohli has led the way with 500 runs in the league so far, the others have chipped in well as almost everyone has played at-leas one match-winning knock. This is the kind of batting depth RCB always craved for and they have it as the batters look set to conquer the league.
2) All-rounders chipping in with match-winning performances
Not only the power-packed batters, but RCB's two crucial all-rounders, Krunal Pandya and Romario Shepherd have also been outstanding. When RCB needed a messiah against CSK, Shepherd stepped in and scored a 14-ball fifty. However, the surprising aspect has been Krunal Pandya.
Criterion | Data |
Matches | 11 |
Dismissals | 14 |
Economy | 8.57 |
(Pandya bowling stats)
14 wickets in 11 matches and most of those came in when RCB were in dire need of a wicket. Apart from his bowling, the former LSG star has also delivered with the bat, and who could forget his match-winning fifty Vs DC when he bailed the team out of a precarious situation.
3) Seizing momentum in crunch situations
Champion teams are those who are expected to win matches from any situations and this season, RCB have done just that. In the match against CSK, the Super Kings needed 213 to win and at one stage, they were 172 for 3 inside 16 overs. However, the RCB side kept their cool and seized the opportunity to win the game by a whisker. This is a champions mentality and one of the key reasons why the team could win the IPL title.
